We can trace to a particular place and time the introduction of the word "strategy" into business vocabulary. It was Boston, the mid 1960s, and the beginning of the management consulting era. Over most of the history of that industry, strategy consulting has been seen primarily as an analytical discipline. The ascendant strategy challenge though is sense-making. Spread-sheets need not apply.
